(Newser) – Iran is having quite the day: In addition to trumpeting its recent nuclear achievements, it also thumbed its nose at EU sanctions "against Iran's energy and banking sectors" by cutting off oil exports to six European countries. The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, and Portugal are the affected countries, reports the AP. Iran's oil minister had recently warned that just such a move could occur. The Wall Street Journal notes that the news sent Brent crude-oil futures to a six-month high.

Let them eat their oil.  The world can last longer than the Iranians will in this contest.  No need to drop bombs, just let them go without oil sales for as long as they wish.  As soon as they can't afford to import the next generation of smart phones and so on, they will knuckle under and be reasonable.  If we let our war-mongering corporations force us into war with them, they will dig their heels in, screaming "Holy War," and nothing we can do will defeat them.  It's a lot like dealing with tea baggers.  Of course, that's exactly what the war-mongering corporations want, endless war, endless sales of bullets and missiles and coffins to U. S. taxpayers.

As someone once said, "Si vis pacem, para bellum". Rough translation, "If you want oil(peace), prepare for war."
