Huntsman: ‘Third party would be healthy thing’

(User Submitted) – During his appearance on MSNBC Thursday morning former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman asserted his belief that, “The Republican Party is broken”– expressing his discontent with the dominance of the two major parties, writes The Raw Story.

“We need campaign finance reform,” he said. “The system is broken. We need term limits. We need something to compete against a duopoly that is getting old and tired.”

Huntsman suspended his bid for the Republican nomination blaming his unwillingness to pander to special interests, and a lack of young voters turning out that feel the system is “rigged” by current campaign finance rules.

Disinterested in taking part in an independent bid, Huntsman said, “I think we are going to have problems until we get some sort of third party movement or some alternative voice out there that can put forward new ideas.”

Huntsman pointed out that the "fastest growing party in America is the unaffiliated party" and that a strong third party would be a "healthy thing." Read the full article.

A voice of reason?  my god, no wonder he wasn't even given a real shot - where would our politics be if our representatives got all reasonable about our problems?  Where would we turn for our outrage, and visceral non-important talking points? Thanks Fondue... Now when I look at your avatar I think "IT'S A TRAP! - but a very sophisticated one, my dear Homes..."

A third party would be great in a parliamentary system, however, I question whether it is workable with a fixed-terms legislature. Which is not, however, to say I am satisfied with the Democrat/Republican duopoly.
