Storm Gives Northeast First Blast of Winter

(Newser) – The deadly storm that shut down much of the Midwest is now giving the Northeast its first major taste of winter, the AP reports. Heavy snow snarled roads and airports in Boston, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Forecasters say some areas could get up to a foot of snow by morning, while others will deal with the mess of freezing rain and sleet. Meanwhile, a bigger storm is brewing and could strike by Sunday.

In the Midwest, more than 300,000 remained without power in Oklahoma and more than 30,000 in Missouri. “We are still saying next week sometime, because of the extent of the damage and the number of customers affected,” an Oklahoma utility official told the New York Times. The icy storm has been blamed for 35 deaths, most of them traffic accidents.
