Santorum Camp: Count Michigan as a Tie

Strategist thinks they'll each end up with 15 delegates

(Newser) – All the headlines say Mitt Romney won Michigan, but Rick Santorum's camp begs to differ. One of his top strategists says both candidates will end up with 15 delegates when all is said and done, reports the Detroit Free Press. “The race has been moved up to a tie on delegates,” says John Brabender. “For this to end up a tie can only be seen as a disaster for Mitt Romney.” The state GOP has not announced the final allotment of delegates, notes the newspaper. Romney won the popular vote by about 3 percentage points.

Of course, Romney didn't essentially seal the deal until Rick Santorum dropped out. He says he was surprised by Santorum's decision

(NEWSER) - Mitt Romney said today he was surprised by Rick Santorum's departure from the race but predicted he would remain a strong voice in national politics, reports AP . The two spoke earlier in the day, and Romney issued a statement calling him a "worthy competitor" and an "important voice in our party," notes Politico . "This has been a good day for me," he told supporters in Delaware. (The AP described him as "buoyant.")
