Church Is at Breaking Point Over Molesters: Archbishop

Irish leader fuming over Vatican handling of pedophile priests

(Newser) – Catholic officials' failure to adequately police and punish molesters in the clergy has placed the Irish church at a "breaking point," Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin tells 60 Minutes. The Irish Catholic leader has angrily criticized the church hierarchy for moving pedophiles from parish to parish, and defied Vatican orders by releasing thousands of pages of investigations of molester priests. He calls the abuse of children "devastating." Abuse "isn't just the actual sexual acts, which are horrendous," Martin adds. "But sexual abuse of a child is a total abuse of power. It's saying to a child, 'I control you.' And that is saying to the child, 'You're worthless.'"

Now, he says, there's "a real danger today of people saying, 'The child abuse scandal is over, let's bury it, let's move on.' It isn't over." The controversy has produced diplomatic tensions between Vatican and the Irish government, whose officials have blasted the Vatican for mishandling the abuse crisis. The Vatican has recalled its ambassador to Ireland, and the current coalition government is planning to close the Irish embassy in the Vatican, reports the Guardian.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin must feel very much alone among his peers and the rest of the church hierarchy,  much like a child feels very much alone, who has been sexually abused by a clergy. Martin is very brave to speak the truth, as are the thousands of victims. When victims, witnesses, whistleblowers, priests, nuns, religious brothers, bishops, cardinals and the pope stay silent, nothing changes. But when they find the courage to take action, there's at least a chance for healing, justice, and protecting children.   Judy Jones, SNAP Midwest Associate Director, USA, 636-433-2511 "Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests" and all clergy. (SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world's oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 12,000 members. Despite the word "priest" in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers and increasingly, victims who were assaulted in a wide range of institutional settings like summer camps, athletic programs, Boy Scouts, etc. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)

We are asking the wrong questions about the worldwide Hierarchy of the Catholic Church.  Instead of asking how could these church leaders not know child abuse was wrong? 1)We need to ask, why if church leaders did NOT know it was wrong/harmful/evil to cover up child abuse--did they know enough to hush children and their families with threats and payoff money? Instead of asking how could the leadership of the Catholic Church engage in hundreds of thousands of coverups all over the world, with virtually not one clergyman standing up for children? 2)We need to ask, what kind of an organization indulges in fostering and covering for mass pedophilia? And the answer is, a very evil organization.  It is not just that the Vatican lead Catholic Church has a centuries long track record of murder, in the crusades, the inquisitions, the burning of heretics and even of people that translated the bible from latin into the language of the people--the Vatican sided with Hitler in Germany, actually staffing some of the concentration camps in smaller countries with priests.  And in exchange for a tax on Germans paid to the Church, green lighted Hitler's rise to power. We know these are true, because recent popes have 'apologized' for these acts.  Just as (when massive coverups come to light) the Church now says how sorry it was that it did not know better.  The fact is that the Catholic Church as transformed by Constantine from a persecuted group of Christians into the official and worldly 'Church of State',' is an organization that has been guilty of crimes against humanity for centuries.  Now, having little else to despoil that its parishioners pocketbooks--the Church has turned its bloodlust against the children of its poorest and most trusting parishioners.  The ones who pay and obey. In case after case, it is parochial schools, orphanages, homes for the handicapped children (e.g.the deaf), and among poor indigenous peoples, where pedophiles have ravaged children with a lustful violence and total impunity.  It is we, who know about this who must hold the Church accountable now. We can no longer say these people, this Church is monstrous.  We must stop acting like it is such a big surprise.  The organization must be stopped and shut down.I thank Ireland for breaking diplomatic ties with a renigade Vatican state.  What Rome represents has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ.

Please examine the Jehovah's Witnesses who go door to door and come on our property.Jehovah's Witnesses pedophiles.  Many court documents and news events prove that Jehovah's Witnesses require two witnesses when a child comes forward with allegations of molestation within the congregation. Such allegations have customarily been treated as sins instead of crimes and are only reported to authorities when it is required to do so by law, (which varies by state). It has also been shown that child molesters within the organization usually have not been identified to the congregation members or the public at large. These people engage in a door to door ministry, possibly exposing children to pedophiles. Although the Watchtower Bible Tract Society claims that known pedophiles are accompanied by a non-pedophile in such work, there is no law stating that such a practice must be followed. The Watchtower corporation has paid out millions in settlement money already. --Danny Haszard abuse victim
