GOP Blasts Elizabeth Warren for Hollywood Pals

Elizabeth Warren is running for Senate in Massachusetts, but her foes are taking great delight in pointing out that some of her biggest fans live 3,000 miles away. Roughly 20% of Warren's donations came from California last quarter, thanks to celebrities like Danny Devito, who has tweeted videos of Warren, and Cher, who likens her to Paul Revere, the New York Times reports. The Republican Party of Massachusetts released an attack ad pointing that out this week, dubbing Warren a hypocrite for raising money from wealthy celebrities.

Scott Brown, meanwhile, has been pointing out that Warren is, in the words of a spokesman, "heavily reliant on out-of-state money from Hollywood glitterati and elite academia." Indeed, 61% of Warren's fundraising came from outside Massachusetts in the quarter, but then, Brown himself took in piles of out-of-state cash in his 2010 run. Warren's camp says her out-of-state support just reflects her national accomplishments, and her celebrity fans agree. Asked if she thought her support might hurt Warren, Cher scoffed. "How do you bring somebody that good down?" (More Elizabeth Warren stories.)
