Swingers sue after suburb in Dallas shuts down sexy get-togethers

(Newser) – Swingers Jim Trulock and Julie Norris think they should be allowed to have sex in the privacy of their own home—with 100 of their closest friends. Unfortunately, the Dallas suburb they live in disagrees, Newsweek reports. Trulock and Norris have twice been charged with running a sex club after holding wild, sex-drenched parties. “It's none of the government's business!” their lawyer insists.

The couple is fighting back, launching lawsuits against the city. Recent Supreme Court rulings say the government can’t regulate private activity, their lawyer says. “Any kind of private activity, (even) wearing pink socks in your home.” Swingers are a growing subculture of sexual socializers that Texas isn’t comfortable with. “The fear is if one little town can do it, then everyone can,” Norris says.

(AP) - Massive plumes of black smoke billowed from a raging fire at a chemical plant south of Dallas today, prompting evacuations for some schools and residents and sending others to take shelter inside with doors and windows shut to avoid possible exposure to any dangerous gases. Bright orange flames engulfed the Magnablend Chemical Plant facility in Waxahachie, about 30 miles south of Dallas. Images from local television stations showed the fast-moving blaze consuming a fire truck as firefighters worked nearby. More»

(NEWSER) - A mother and child have been killed in a blaze near Dallas, while another "catastrophic" Texas wildfire has destroyed 300 homes and sent thousands of residents near Austin fleeing for their lives. The 16-mile-long Austin fire has burned through 14,000 acres and is now threatening an additional 700 houses, reports the American-Statesman . Firefighters were battling a dozen brush and grass blazes throughout eastern and central Texas yesterday as dry conditions and winds whipped up by Tropical Storm Lee turn the state into a tinderbox. Two of the fires were started when flames jumped from barbeque pits, and one ignited as a teen burned love letters outdoors, said officials. More»
