Storm Drops a Foot of Snow on Kansas

(Newser) – A foot of snow hit Kansas this morning as thousands huddled in shelters there, unable to return home after power outages, the AP reports. Oklahoma, which still has 181,000 homes and businesses blacked out, caught a break this morning when heavy snow warnings were canceled. But Missouri is still in the crosshairs as the storm moves across the Midwest and into New England.

Parts of Michigan are predicted to get 15 inches of snow, with 10 more forecast for Detroit; the storm is expected to hit the Northeast by tomorrow. In its wake, it leaves hundreds of thousands without power across Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
