Pettitte Admits Using HGH

(Newser) – Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, one of the bigger names cited in the Mitchell report on doping in baseball, admitted today that he used human growth hormone, the AP reports. Pettitte says he used HGH twice in 2002 to speed his recovery from an elbow injury. "I accept responsibility for those two days," he said.

"If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize," Pettitte wrote in a statement. He said he asked his trainer, whom he shared with Roger Clemens, for HGH because he thought he would heal more quickly. “Two days out of my entire career, when I was injured and on the disabled list,” he said. “I wasn’t looking for an edge. I was looking to heal.”
