Piracy Site Takes To The Skies

(User Submitted) – In a move sure to irk the powers that be, a popular filesharing site has announced a clever move to stay one step ahead of the law: airspace servers.

In a science-fictiony leap to the future, the wildly popular Pirate Bay is claiming airborne host stations are cost effective, and damn difficult to shut down. In fact, as far as we can tell, the only way to take them out is with jets and missiles.

Instead of waiting for their land based stations to be shut down, GPS controlled drones in low earth orbit will hover and maintain magnet links for all of your filesharing needs. Sound impossible? Not with cheap radios and tiny computers like Raspberry Pi.

"These Low Orbit Server Stations are just the first attempt," wrote Mr.Spock from TPB. "With modern radio transmitters we can get over 100Mbps per node up to 50km away. For the proxy system we're building, that's more than enough." Read the full article.

This is a delightful and interesting development. Using magnet links, the entire site can fit on even the most ancient thumb drive. I'm very curious about the airframe they are using, but whatever type of craft, I'm not sure that "orbit" would be the right word to describe it's flight path.
