'Fetal Pain' Law Advances in Georgia

Measure to restrict abortions after 20 weeks clears Senate panel

(Newser) – Georgia is a step closer to becoming the latest state to restrict abortions based on the principle of "fetal pain." The measure would outlaw nearly all abortions after 20 weeks, which is when the bill's supporters say the fetus can feel pain, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Opponents say there's no medical evidence to back up the claim. The measure cleared a Senate panel yesterday and has already passed the state House. A handful of other states, including Idaho, already have similar laws in place.

You can have an abortion without "fetal pain".  This is a non-issue.

Apparently evidence is irrelevant, as usual with matters of public policy.

100% in favor of this with the exception being if the mother's life was in danger. 20 weeks is enough time to think about it I believe any fetus over 20 weeks has a medical chance of survival, therefore should have to be delivered and treated as a patient and a sovereign human being, Regaurdless of odds. The parents should then be financially obligated to pay child support if the baby survives early delivery. This allows women control over there bodies through the whole term of pregnancy, but holds both parents responsible for there decision. I believe, a fetus that can possibly survive outside the mother should have Rights Whats funny is all the "animal rights" (PETA types) would spit in your face for eating a chicken wing if they could get away with it, but they don't believe that a baby human has rights. Hell, Peter Singer even though it was okay to kill infants. Singer argues that the West can learn from the other cultures like the Kalahari where children are routinely killed when they are unwanted, even when they are several years old. He is also a White House appointed healthcare administrator.
