(Newser) – Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon got a bit of a surprise when they went on PBS' Finding Your Roots and discovered … they're actually distant cousins, Zap2It reports. "Talk about six degrees of separation, right?" jokes host Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. In the Huffington Post, 14 more examples of surprising celebrity family connections:

  • Tom Cruise: You probably know he was born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV—but did you know his cousin is William Mapother, aka Ethan from Lost?
  • Jenny McCarthy: The former Playboy Playmate is cousins with Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy.

  • Sissy Spacek: Her cousin? Rip Torn, who actually helped her get into acting.
  • Warren Beatty: He was also inspired to become an actor by a famous relative … sister Shirley MacLaine.
  • And see if you can keep up with this one: Sofia Coppola is director Francis Ford Coppola's daughter and cousins with both Jason Schwartzman and Nicolas Cage. Plus, her brother is a director and her grandfather was a composer.
