(Newser) – Somebody get Ren McCormack on the phone. The town of Weston, Fla., has passed an ordinance that specifically bans nightclubs, dance halls, and skating rinks, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. None of those establishments has ever existed in the suburban town, and the mayor says they want to keep it that way. "This is something that we thought would protect the city," he says.

Clubs and skating rinks have a nasty habit of attracting "large crowds," and "unlawful and/or undesirable activities," the town's city manager explains, citing recent incidents with drugs and alcohol at county nightclubs. Violence has also been a problem in Florida clubs, with 20 people shot and killed in the past 10 years. But what of the Weston youth desperate to shake their groove things? They'll have to settle for school dances and events at the YMCA, the city commissioner says.

You mean they actually serve ALCOHOL at a NIGHT CLUB?!?! I'm SHOCKED! Absolutely SHOCKED! Next thing you know, they will have WOMEN REMOVING THEIR CLOTHES! ON STAGE! AND GETTING PAID FOR IT!! I'm sure the residents of this town will feel much safer now that they are protected from such evil as dancing and skating which didn't exist there in the first place!

with a median family income of $119,689. In 2006, it was ranked as the city with the largest job growth in Florida and 18th largest in the nation. Business week ranked Weston as one of the "best affordable suburbs" in the United States in November 2006. Due to it being a fully planned community, local realtors often state that "everything is located exactly where it should be" -wikipedia- They're doing something right. Best to take a short ride to South Beach or West Palm Beach and do the partying there. Banning roller rinks may be pushing it, though the one that shut down near me, did have a lot of fights and even stabbings. Just make it a kids only roller rink and have a policy that says one adult over 25 for every two or three kids. On a side note, i would rather go to the dentist then a YMCA party.

Weston is an upscale Ft. Lauderdale bedroom community. Draw your own conclusions.
