Hashtag Gets Gaga in Trouble

Lady Gaga has spoken out on the importance of healthy body image, particularly important to her since she once struggled with bulimia … so why did she think it was a good idea to use the hashtag #PopSingersDontEat? According to the Huffington Post, a firestorm erupted after Gaga tweeted Tuesday night, "Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay." Many of her fans expressed their disappointment, and on its Twitter page, the National Eating Disorder Association responded: "Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?"

Celebrities and Twitter don't always make for a great combination, as evidenced by these other brouhahas:

  • Chris Brown has had more than his fair share of Twitter troubles, but the worst offense may have been his rant after throwing a chair through a window at Good Morning America. He was unhappy at being questioned about Rihanna, and tweeted, "I'm so over people bringing this past s**t up!!!"
  • Justin Bieber apparently thinks it's hilarious to tweet phone numbers. Most recently, he pretended to tweet his own number and ended up deluging two Texans with phone calls; he had pulled the same stunt once before to get revenge on an enemy.
  • Ashton Kutcher's ill-advised Joe Paterno tweet caused him to step away from the Twitter for a while—and reportedly also caused Demi Moore to leave him.
  • Just yesterday, Courtney Love took to Twitter to accuse former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl of seducing her daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
