It's Your Turn to Apologize, Ann Romney

Or at least it would be if Democrats had the GOP's killer instinct

(Newser) – In Republicans' rush to make the most of Hilary Rosen's statement that Ann Romney "never worked a day in her life," the aggrieved spouse herself told Fox News, "I know what it's like to struggle." Joan Walsh of Salon was shocked, and she's demanding Romney "apologize to all women for equating the 'struggle' of a wealthy mother who had full-time household help to that of a poor or working-class job-holding mother." Mitt should apologize too, and so should every prominent Republican on Earth.

"Wait. Ann Romney's not a Democrat and I'm not a Republican, so that's not how the world works," Walsh writes. "Sorry about that. I apologize." No, she doesn't actually think Romney should apologize. "But in a grown-up world, Hilary Rosen wouldn't have had to either." Rosen was making a valid point: Ann Romney's "struggles" aren't the same as "those of women who work at low-wage jobs and struggle to raise their children safely," writes Walsh. Non-deep-thinker wants to make absolutely certain that you agree with his opinion that all liberals are defective individuals.

Ann Romney -- a class act.  A decent person, devoted charity worker, MS survivor, cancer survivor, mother of five.  The Democrats are going to find out -- probably the hard way, as they usually do -- that trashing and smearing Ann Romney is taking a little trip down a blind alley, and is going to backfire.  The sewage is simply going to wash back up on themselves, exactly as it did here. But hey, keep it up.  Why learn the easy way?  Slow-learners learning the hard way is what they do. It's who they are -- it's part of their DNA.

I see nothing wrong or offensive with Ms. Rosen's comment. Ann Romney's economic standing is worlds away from my life as a single mother who at times worked 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet. This is highly common these days, even amongst intact families with 2 earners. It says nothing of her value as a stay at home mom, but rather her disattachment from most working mothers without help or fortunes.
