(Newser) – You'd think, with all their fame, fortune, and presumed ability to hire a legion of accountants, celebrities would be able to stay on top of their taxes. But these 13 stars, rounded up by Fox News, prove that's not always the case:

  • Lionel Richie: Reportedly owes the federal government $1.1 million, and has had a lien issued against him.
  • Lindsay Lohan: As if the rest of her problems aren't enough, LiLo reportedly owes the IRS $93,701, and is also dealing with a lien.

  • Pamela Anderson: She made it onto California's list of the worst tax offenders, reportedly owing $524,241.
  • The Osbournes: Not only do Ozzy and Sharon reportedly owe $718,948.25 for 2008 and $1,024,175.03 for 2009, but daughter Kelly reportedly owes $34,000.
  • Wesley Snipes: He's actually in prison for failing to file his federal income tax returns.
  • Joe Francis: We have to disagree with his categorization as a "star," but the Girls Gone Wild founder reportedly owed a whopping $29,393,681.45 back in 2010.

This is hilarious. "Lionel Richie: Reportedly owes the federal government $1.1 million, and has had a lien issued against him." Just because a lien is issued doesn't automatically make the Fed correct. It could be an error. But, more importantly (far more importantly) - Lionel Richie is listed under "13 Stars with Major Tax Issues" -- please let's evaluate this closely. Multiple sources can establish that Richie is worth upwards of 200 million dollars (and because that's residual income from pop and country publishing it's rising as I write). That is the equvialent of an individual owing the goverment 200 dollars and they want 1 dollar. So if my math is right - not counting fees - even if he DOES owe the money. He'd have 199 mil left over. I would say it's unfair -- but because of the amount he's actually worth -- it's funny. Align these headlines with people who deserve to be attached to them. Richie doesn't belong in the same story as Lindsay and Snipes. Seriously??

I would like to see how this list stacks up agains the top CEO's or politicians. It would be interesting if the IRS made something similar to a top 10 most wanted list that would state the top tax offenders and cheats. That might shame some into compliance. I just wonder how many 1% cheat on taxes or owe.
