Hold off if you can on TVs, iPhones, and laptops: Wirecutter

(Newser) – Good things come to those who wait, and technology is no exception. At the Wirecutter, Brian Lam lists a few hot items not to buy yet, or you'll be kicking yourself later.

  • TVs and home theater equipment. The reviews for the latest TVs will be available around mid-year, and Samsung's new plasma offering won't be around until next month.
  • iPhones. Hold off about five or six months, and you'll be the first to get the next generation.

  • Laptops. Don't get your next one until Intel's new Ivy Bridge chips come out in late spring. The higher-efficiency chips will be faster, with better graphics potential. And if you're a PC person, wait for Windows 8 in the fall.

Even with 200 channels and 3-D liquid led lcd's or whatever they are, there is still not much worth watching on the TV. And what IS worth watching (news, science, Myth Busters, etc.) does not gain much from glitzy electronics. Just like all these fancy phones; we still have little of substance to communicate to anyone of importance, nor little to hear.
