32 STUDENTS DEAD AT VA TECH

Posted Apr 16, 07 2:37 PM CDT in US

(Newser) – At least 32 students are dead after a gunman opened fire on a Virginia Tech dormitory and classroom building this morning. The shooter is dead; two dozen other students were wounded in the attack. “This place is in a state of panic,” one student told CNN; others report watching classmates jump from dormitory windows to escape the attack.

The attack follows a rash of bomb threats earlier in the month, including one on Friday that forced some classes to be cancelled. But police haven't established a link between the threats and today's shooting, or a motive for the shooting. This marks the largest school shooting in U.S. history; 12 students and a teacher were killed at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999.
