Forest Service to Hack Up Frozen Cows

Creepy detail: Crews will spend the night at Colorado cabin

(AP) – If the idea of cows creepily frozen inside a mountain cabin sounds like the stuff of horror movies, bad news: The tale's ending is no less macabre. Crews with hand saws and knives plan to carve up the cattle before the carcasses thaw. A group of US Forest Service employees will head to the Colorado cabin today to cut up the remains and scatter them. Additional nightmare-inducing detail: They'll stay overnight until the job is done.

Air Force Academy cadets snowshoeing in late March found the dead cattle in and around the cabin near the Conundrum Hot Springs. Rangers believe the cows wandered into the structure during a snowstorm but couldn't get out. Forest Service officials explored burning or blowing up the cabin with explosives but decided to cut up the carcasses instead.

Only intelligent thing to do would be to go in and wear protective clothing and respirators and saw these frozen lumps of meat up to manageable size then dispose of them properly, blowing the entire area would be to create a huge mess that would ruin the area once the thaw hit hard. This will protect the area and be clean as long as plastic is used to cover the floors and no more mess made than one would expect to see at a local food store with a meat department, once finished the area will vlean up easily enough and with modern saws the work will be fast and efficient.
