Disney Monorail Gets a Facelift

(Newser) – Disney's once-futuristic elevated train has gotten its first facelift in 20 years, with the arrival at Disneyland Thursday of the first new cars in a series of planned upgrades to the monorail. The cars, to be unveiled in February, feature blue glass windows and red stripes that change color in the sun, the Orange County Register reports.

Changes in the cars are mostly cosmetic: besides the color scheme, the new design features bench seats facing the windows, but the monorail's speed and capacity remain unchanged. The monorail dates to 1959, and the cars currently plying its single track have been in service since 1987. More upgrades to the ride will roll out through the summer.
