GM Won't Buy Ads in Next Super Bowl

It's too expensive, says marketing chief

(Newser) – Maybe Facebook shouldn't feel too bad that GM is dropping its paid ads from the site: The automaker isn't buying any Super Bowl spots next year, either, reports the Wall Street Journal. GM, usually a heavy presence in the big game, says the price of the ads—currently $3.8 million for 30 seconds—just isn't worth it. The move is part of a larger overhaul of its marketing strategy, but the company says it's not cutting back on its overall advertising budget, which hit $4.5 billion last year.

Don't look for GM to be selling this or any other vehicle during next year's Super Bowl.

My admiration for GM's turnaround just went up a notch, and for Mitt Romney, down another notch ... as if that's even possible. : -)

Why would anybody pay that for an ad. My thought is that if you can afford those prices than you are already big enough that everybody knows who you are. Budweiser, Pepsi, Coke to name just three are known around the world. It's rediculous for them to spend so much on Super Bowl ads. There isn't one person who watches the game that doesn't already know their product.

Another reason to consider GM when buying a car.
