(Newser) – You might want to wait to read this until you're somewhere it's OK to scream: It would take the average American worker 3,489 years to make as much money as one top CEO took home in just one year. David Simon of shopping mall developer Simon Property snagged a pay package last year worth more than $137 million (mostly in stock awards that could eventually be worth $132 million), and the AP offers up some comparisons to illustrate just how crazy that really is:

  • A minimum wage worker would need to toil about 9,096 years to equal Simon's 2011 earnings, and it would take three years for that person to make what Simon made in an hour.
  • As for a person earning the national median salary of $39,312? It would take that worker slightly more than one year to earn what Simon made in one hour.
  • Simon also makes 342 times what we pay President Obama and far more than the $110 million that goes to the top 600 government leaders in the US combined.
Although most CEOs took home "just" $9.587 million, it would still take the average American almost a month to earn what the average CEO made in one hour.

People castigating Simon for his pay have as much credibility as someone, who has never served in the military, philosophizing about war.

This is a game that has to end. Companies that do this are ripping off their investors as well as everyone from the upper rich, middle, upper middle, middle....poor. You have 1% to 2% (estimate for argument) of the rich pointing over everyone's heads to the 1% - 2% poor saying entitlements! along with tea party right wings fools trying to hoard what, paper! These CEO's are not the only ones over payed. These moneys are calculated, what about the advertisements we are all bombarded with on TV?, Do you know how much a NASCAR crew costs? Point being this is all cream off the top along with everyone else in the upper entitlement class the rich of the richest. Its not section 8 people taking planes to Singapore for little girls! The criminal element is through every cross section of people! Except its not the rich going to jail and in my opinion should be. So to say its the entitlements of the poor or the rest of us, its rather the entitlements of the filthy rich! Just like government that spends its budget because if they don't they wont be able to ask for more next fiscal year! Business in the USA not only have a good base to work from but also the #1 base. This was won by boots on the ground. Many whom lay in the ground at Arlington and other grave yards around the world! and the greatest majority of them did not come from OLD MONEY!

And to think this parasite actually thinks 1. That he's worth it, and 2. That he "creates jobs". It's theft, pure and simple.
