(Newser) – A pastor of a 30,000-member megachurch in Georgia was arrested for allegedly assaulting his 15-year-old daughter. Creflo Dollar was taken into custody after police responded to a domestic disturbance around 1am today at his Atlanta home. Dollar's daughter told the officers her father choked and punched her during an argument over whether she could go to a party, reports CNN.

Dollar is charged with simple battery, family violence, and child cruelty, and was released on $5,000 bail this morning. Dollar serves as a senior pastor at the World Changers Church International, a megachurch he founded in the 1980s which preaches that God will reward faithful believers with wealth and and a debt-free life.

I can't understand why someone working for a big, invisible, moralizing superhero would do something this immoral. (...but he has such a direct, honest name that discloses Christians' actual goal - Dollar)

These televangelists put themselves on pedestals as if they have everything in order. Then a peculiar thing happens. The fame they sought becomes impossible to switch off and the expectations that people have of their star pastor become increasingly brittle. I can't imagine how stressful this must be. And I think that these expectations have in no small measure contributed to the domestic disturbance. After all, if you are a star pastor with a blessed family (remember blessing is proof of God's love in his church) it doesn't look good if your daughter is going to parties late at night. Image is everything. When I consider Jesus I think of a man whose image meant nothing to him. He absorbed all the taunting, ridicule and anger and never said a word. He was totally at peace with his identity. But when I look at televangelists and other religious leaders, I see a fear at work; a lack of trust in the triumph of truth and goodness. They are the gods of their own world and the makers of their own paradise.
