Virginia Tech Criticized for Inaction

Posted Apr 17, 07 8:36 AM CDT in US

(Newser) – As Virginia Tech prepares for today's memorial service for the 30 students  and two teachers killed in two shootings yesterday, the school faces mounting criticism for not doing more to alert the campus between the attacks. " "The university has blood on their hands because of their lack of action," one student said.

It took officials nearly two hours to send an email urging students to "be cautious." President Charles Steeger defended the decision, citing the difficulty of mobilizing the 11,000-student campus, and arguing that the first shooting had the makings of a domestic dispute. "We had no reason to suspect any other incident was going to occur," he told reporters.
