(Newser) – A university shooting in Canada overnight left three people dead, Global Edmonton reports. Police were called to the HUB Mall on the University of Alberta campus just after midnight today after the armed robbery attempt, the Edmonton Journal adds. The victims are believed to be two male employees and one female employee of an armored vehicle company; a third male was reportedly injured.

Few people were in the building at the time; the mall has shops and student living quarters, CBC reports. "I heard pop, pop, pop, about eight of them," says one person who was studying; another student reports hearing two loud cracks around 11:30pm last night. Some students reported being on lockdown, but the HUB Mall has now reportedly been cleared and secured, though the apparently lone shooter remains at large. AM 630 calls this Edmonton's deadliest armed robbery.

the gun cancer is spreading to canada. and if the long arm of the NRA extends into canada they are doomed. they have been trying to abolish canada's long-gun registry. the NRA's paranoia is evident: their infomercial referred to the "the canadian situation". essentially warning gun owners that the registry was a governmental plot to seize guns. i think canada is perfectly capable of handling its own business. guns or otherwise.

Oh No.. That criminal must have not obeyed the law.. Handguns with a barrel shorter than 105mm (4.14 inches) and/or in caliber .25 or .32 are prohibited in Canada and are illegal to possess in Canada.
