With the final NFC playoff spot on the line, Washington overpowered Minnesota 32-21 last night, the Washington Post reports. Now, with a win next week against Dallas, or if the Vikings and Saints both lose, the Redskins earn a berth. The Vikings merely needed to win this game, but were consistently stymied on offense by excellent play from Washington's D.

The victory was Washington's third straight, and was won in resounding fashion. The Redskins finished the half up 22-0 after allowing an average of 1.8 yards per carry to the Vikings' excellent running game. Rookie phenom Adrian Peterson finished with a mere 27 yards on nine carries. backup QB Todd Collins had 254 yards and two touchdowns for the 'Skins. (More NFL stories.)
