(Newser) – A 16-year-old is in serious condition—but miraculously alive—after being accidentally shot through the skull with a spear gun, Florida doctors revealed yesterday. They showed off a stunning X-ray that shows the spear lodged inside the teen's head, its tip protruding out the back. Nasser Lopez was swimming in a lake near his home when a 15-year-old friend accidentally hit the trigger on a spear gun he was loading, the Miami Herald reports.

The spear hit Nasser just above his right eye. "It's a miracle the spear missed all the main blood vessels of the brain," a neurosurgeon said. Nasser was flown by helicopter to the hospital, where he underwent three hours of surgery to remove the spear. Doctors say he doesn't remember the incident.
