Stray bullet hits Greyston Garcia

(Newser) – In a stunningly ironic turn of events, a Miami man who was freed just three months ago in a controversial "Stand Your Ground" case was killed by a stray bullet this week. Greyston Garcia—who was granted immunity by a judge in March after chasing down and killing a man who was attempting to steal his car radio—left his job at a convenience store Tuesday night to get change at a nearby gas station. He was caught in a firefight between two rival gangs as he returned to the store, crashed his truck, and was later pronounced dead, the Miami Herald reports. A 16-year-old boy was also killed in the shootout.

This comment page has surprised me at what smart people we have in this world that can say such stupid things. Garcia killed a man while he was, in fact, defending his property, then himself. The fact that he was killed by a "stray bullet" could have been someone who was getting back at him for that killing or whatever the reason, he did not deserve to die because he killed. If he was religious or not, he knew he did wrong, you could see his remorse in the police video. He wasn't some cold, heartless murderer. He fessed up not realizing "the system" would give him immunity. He was willing to do the time, but he didn't have to. His soul rests because it was his time and that's that. People don't die because they deserve it, they die because that's just the way it's supposed to be. Those of you who don't have your facts straight on the story should use your bright, little minds to read carefully.

I wonder if Greyston Garcia was a religious man. The Sixth Commandment is about Respect for Human life. God asks us to demonstrate love and not hate towards others by not murdering. We must learn to control our tempers. Taking another person's life is not our right to decide. That judgment is reserved for God alone. That is the thrust of this Commandment. God does not allow us to choose to wilfully or deliberately take another person's life. The Sixth Commandment reminds us that God is the giver of life and He alone has the authority to take it or to grant permission to take it. God wants us to go far beyond avoiding murder. He requires that we not maliciously harm another human being in word or deed. This is why John wrote, “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him” 1 John 3:15. God desires that we treat even those who choose to hate us respectfully and do all within our power to live in peace and harmony with them. He wants us to be builders, not destroyers of good relationships. To accomplish this we must respect this wonderful gift of this precious possession, human life. I guess he's in Hell now.

Not really ironic, but definitely a bummer.
