(Newser) – It's Day 6 of the Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise divorce watch, and the updates—you guessed it—just keep coming. People reports that dad Martin Holmes played a big part in "orchestrating" his daughter's split from the actor. Not only is Martin "very rigid" and rumored to have been apprehensive about Katie's relationship with Cruise, he's also a lawyer who handles matrimonial law ... though he won't be part of his daughter's official legal team. He reportedly flew into NYC last week to help her fire a number of employees. In other news:

  • People also spills plenty of details on the lead-up to the divorce, which involved "meticulous planning" on Holmes' part. A source tells the mag that "her inner circle has been planning this and switching out cell phones since she was in China [in mid-June]. When new cell phones arrived, then nobody could reach her. Her old best friends from last week don't have her new number, no email. She's unreachable."
  • How did Holmes manage to rent a new apartment last month without making Cruise suspicious? The source says she told him she wanted to move to a place with an underground garage, to better protect her from the paparazzi.
  • Still, as recently as last week she was telling Tom, via phone, "I love you," says the source.
  • And TMZ offers more on Holmes' Scientology fears. It says she was present when Cruise's other kids participated in a ritual in 2005, in which they hold an "e-meter" and answer questions designed to help identify "areas of spiritual distress." She didn't want Suri to have to do it. Among the questions that can be asked: "Have you ever decided you did not like some member of your family?" Click to read more of the questions.
