(Newser) – We apparently now know what the suicide bomber who targeted Israelis in Bulgaria looks like, but the rest of his story remains a source of conflicting reports. Bulgarian security officials today released a video of the casually dressed man they say is the bomber, reports the Times of Israel. Media reports in the country identified him as 36-year-old Mehdi Ghezali, a Swede of Algerian descent who served time at Gitmo. Soon after those reports surfaced, however, they were shot down by Bulgarian and Swede officials, notes Haaretz.

Israel continues to insist that the bomber, whatever his identity, was a member of Hezbollah working at the behest of Iran. A US security official agreed with that assessment, reports the New York Times. DNA results may provide the answers soon. The bomber did indeed have a Michigan driver's license on him, but state officials have confirmed that it's bogus.
