An off-duty New York police officer shot dead his own son, believing he was an intruder, he told investigators. Michael Leach, 59, was staying in an upstate motel over the weekend when he opened fire on his 37-year-old son, Matthew, of Rochester. Leach used his department-issued .45-caliber Glock in the shooting, said police. Leach was hospitalized afterward for an undisclosed "medical issue," state troopers told the Syracuse Post Standard. An investigation is continuing.
