Conservatives Flock to Chick-fil-A's Defense

No word on a 'Defense of Chicken Act' ... yet

(Newser) – What will you tell your children when they ask you what you were doing during the Great Chicken Wars of 2012? Since the conservative Christian Chick-fil-A franchise has been pecked at by liberal politicians, protesters, and even the Muppets for opposing gay marriage, now conservatives lending their support to the chicken chain, reports the New York Times. In addition to Mike Huckabee, who declared Aug. 1 "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day"—187,000 RSVPs so far—now tweets and messages of support are pouring in from the likes of Rick Santorum; Rev. Roger Oldham, spokesman for the Southern Baptist Convention; and even Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas.

Evangelist Billy Graham has waded into the debate, too, saying he "appreciates" Chick-fil-A for not compromising its values, according to CBN News. "I want to express my support for my good friends Truett Cathy and his son Dan Cathy, and for their strong stand for the Christian faith," wrote Graham in a statement. (It turns out the US is not the only country that gets political about its chicken...)

Hilarious. This reminds me of when those idiot GOP Governors went to a pink slime factory and ate "burgers" in front of the cameras.

As long as Chick-fil-A obeys the law, that's what I care about. I think the law should support same-sex marriage, but as long as it does not everywhere, businesses can do what they will.  Of course, supporting Chick-fil-A because its owners are anti-gay is pretty dumb, too.

Liberals are such hypocrites. They believe in free speech as long as it doesn't infringe in their beliefs. Everyone in this country has the right to voice their opinion.  If this is what Mr. Cathy believes, than he is entitled to that belief.  He is not refusing to hire a gay employee, serve a gay customer, etc. So if he believes in traditional marriage values, then he should be able to say what he believes in and not have to worry about any backlash from anyone!
