In 1982, five young men posed for a photo at a California lake. Little did they know then that they'd be doing the same thing every five years for the rest of their lives. They've just marked the 30th anniversary of the tradition, and the series of photos shows a group of friends changing styles and shapes across the decades, CNN reports.

"Watch us lose hair and gain forehead, gain and lose and gain and lose weight," notes one of the men on a website he made for the photos. Wedding rings appear and disappear, too. But the men maintain their positions from the original photo, as well as a few accessories: One of the guys is holding a jar that originally contained a cockroach, while another always holds a hat. Check out all the photos here or visit the guys' Facebook page here. (More photograph stories.)
