Concert on Warsaw Uprising anniversary triggers boycott calls

(Newser) – Now the Poles are upset with Madonna. In the latest uproar over the singer's European tour, Polish veterans groups—along with Catholics—are protesting her concert tonight because it falls on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Ticket holders are being asked to boycott the show, and a conservative member of Parliament even appealed to the government to ban the performance. Concert organizers have agreed to present a short clip at the performance about the city's failed 1944 revolt against Nazis that cost 200,000 lives, but it's not clear if that will be enough to stave off the boycott.

Concert billboards have been defaced with the logo of the Polish Home Army, the largest underground army in Nazi-occupied Europe, reports the BBC. Catholics, meanwhile, are incensed about the 53-year-old singer's use of a burning cross and a crown of thorns in her performance.

Okay Madonna, we get it, but you're kind of being an idiot here: Only a fool continues to "poke the snakes" after getting the initial thrill and attention from doing so the first or second time.  It's the half-dozenth or dozenth time, after one has taken the situation for granted, that one gets bit. The contrived controversy thing is getting a bit tired and stupid and the public is weary of you crying, "wolf!" It's kinda like, "Oh look, Madonna spit on the Pope." Well...big deal...it's just another has-been idiot trying to get attention in a world full of idiots trying to do the same thing." Good luck with that MDNA. It's really just starting to be pathetic and desperate.

She should apply to be Romney's new foreign press secretary.
