(AP) – In Round 2 of Michael Phelps vs. Ryan Lochte, Phelps reigned supreme. The American stars swam against each other for the last time in these Games in the 200-meter individual medley, with Phelps taking the gold (1:54.27) and Lochte the silver (1:54.90). Their first showdown of the London Olympics went to Lochte in a runaway on the opening night of the swimming competition.

This race was a lot closer, with Laszlo Cseh of Hungary finishing third. Two other American swimmers also won gold today: Rebecca Soni in the 200-meter breaststroke and Tyler Clary in the 200-meter backstroke. The win adds to Phelps' record total of medals, now at 20.

I guess tire flipping and rope wiggling doesn't help you swim faster after all.

Exactly how many swimming events are there? How is it fair to compare Phelps' 20 medals to another athlete who only competes in one event every 4 years? He won the 200 meter today, tomorrow he'll win the 210 meter, and the 215 meter the day after that. Is that really worthy of additional praise? I have nothing against the guy, but I think it's more accurate to say he's been successful in two summer Olympics, rather than saying he's been successful 20 times.
