Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer has cancelled his team’s remaining three spring practices and its annual spring game in light of the school shooting that left 33 dead. No players on the team were injured.

“There’s things more important than football right now,” Beamer said. The athletic department has already cancelled several games, but it plans to proceed with three sporting events this weekend, beginning Friday when the baseball team hosts Miami. (More NCAA football stories.)
