Huckabee Calls for Anti-Pakistani Fence

(Newser) – Mike Huckabee's foreign affairs knowledge is under scrutiny after the GOP hopeful made several factual errors in talking about Pakistan, and tried to use the assassination of Benazir Bhutto to highlight the need for a fence along the Mexican border, the New York Times reports. "The immigration issue is not so much about people coming to pick lettuce or make beds, it's about someone coming with a shoulder-fired missile," he said in Iowa yesterday.

And there were other gaffes: Huckabee placed Pakistan to the west, rather than the east of Afghanistan, didn't seem to know martial law had been lifted there, and erroneously  said the US had more illegal immigrants from Pakistan than from any country other than those directly across our southern border. Mitt Romney, who has used the Pakistan crisis to question his rival's foreign policy credentials, slammed Huckabee for suggesting Pakistanis were terrorists.
