(Newser) – Need a new hometown? Pack your stuff and head to Melbourne. The Australian metropolis offers a prosperous economy, a hugely successful culinary scene, and access to top-notch sporting events. It ranked No. 1 (for the second year in a row) as the most livable city in the world in the Global Livability Survey, which takes into account crime, health care, education, culture, and infrastructure. Other top-ranking cities, with a heavy Canadian presence, from the Wall Street Journal:

  1. Vienna
  2. Vancouver
  3. Toronto
  4. Calgary

Melbourne would be a lot more livable, IMHO, if they rotated the downtown so it runs square to the compass (EWNS) instead of that cockeyed not quite 45 degrees off, and then arranged for the Sun to be on the south side.  Having your shadow on the south is most unusual to us Canucks.  Canucks having a shadow at all is unusual at some times of the year.

I'm waiting for Mr. J to pipe in here. I'm happy to say that I've been to nine of the ten cities on this list and have lived in two of them: Toronto & Calgary. I've never been to Helsinki...  :  (

Tip for the day:  When in Vegas stay at the Venetian  -  the towels are so thick.................................. I could barely get my suitcase closed.
