Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux took a private jet to New York City for his birthday celebration, and Theroux—who had been "dying" to propose—whipped out an eight-carat diamond ring, reports the Daily Mail. "It's a huge emerald-cut diamond. It's a rectangle with tapered diamond baguettes on the sides," a friend tells Life & Style. "Jen cried" as Justin proposed, a source tells Us, and then the couple celebrated at Manhattan's Blue Hill restaurant looking "like a long-term couple in love," a source tells People. Then, of course, she called all her friends to gush about the ring. "I think she was overwhelmed and overjoyed by the size and beauty of it!" says one source.

Aniston and Theroux also called friends and family, including her dad John Aniston, with the news. Justin even convinced Jen to invite her estranged mother to the wedding, Radar adds. Insiders were surprised when Theroux's team took the lead on informing the press, rather than the couple issuing a joint statement, sources tell the Huffington Post. But the timing of the announcement had nothing to do with Brad Pitt's upcoming nuptials to Angelina Jolie, a source adds. Aniston looked very happy when she returned to work in North Carolina Sunday night, sources tell the Daily Mail, but she hasn't yet been spotted wearing her ring. (More Jennifer Aniston stories.)
