Chicago Cops Sue City, Say Mayor Rahm Played Politics

They were booted from his security detail, replaced by supporters

(Newser) – Eleven Chicago cops have sued the city, accusing Mayor Rahm Emanuel of playing politics with his security detail. They say they were removed from the detail and replaced by officers who worked on Emanuel's campaign in some fashion, reports the Chicago Tribune. The officers, all of whom are Hispanic or Caucasian, also claim in their federal lawsuit that the demotions were racially motivated, and are now suing for their old positions and monetary compensation.

If their allegations prove true, the city would be in violation of its own Shakman decree, which bans the firing, transfer, or demotion of city employees for political reasons. Though the cops' lawyers were hesitant to give too many details, they did hint to ABC News that a police commander "made a comment prior to demotion of their clients” that suggested race played a role. The suit alleges that black officers got preferential treatment and were allowed to remain on the detail. Meanwhile, the city's Law Department has called the lawsuit "baseless," the Tribune notes.

He is just trying to copy the acts of his mentor, Mayor Daley.  You have to remember that Obama lived and cut his teeth on this mob based training.  Obama clerked for the Teamsters and later did a lot of pro-bono work for Nation of Islam.  He then interfaced with Rahm on many of the initiatives that aldermen ran as horse and pony shows in the Burroughs.  Obama's house was just a short walk to Nation of Islam temple and he used those years to hone in his skills of mixed race politics.  As for the politics of the security detail, Rahm wanted to have people who supported him in his election bid.  They were able to vet this information out from the police union.  Union officials know the politics of the officers through various internal informants.  It was not that the people he fired were not his supporters, the union had solid information on who were his supporters and Rahm wanted those people on his detail.  This is how it rolls in Chicago and one of the systems put into place by people like Obama.  When Obama took office in the White House, he made inquiries with then manager Emanuel about the possibility of using secret service agents who were registered Democrats.  Rahm spent a lot of time trying to vet that information.  But he ran into a brick wall when Homeland Security refused to hand over that information.  He tried to say it was for demographic purposes but Homeland Security said the personal politics of the agents were not the concern of the White House.  It was not too long after that when Emanuel resigned to run for mayor.  He then picked up right were he left off in D.C.
