(Newser) – A Russian judge today found three members of punk band Pussy Riot guilty of hooliganism driven by "religious hatred and enmity" and sentenced them to two years in prison, Reuters reports. Prosecutors had been seeking three years. The three were arrested in March after performing an anti-Putin "punk prayer" inside Moscow's main cathedral. The three women sat in a courtroom cage as the judge addressed the court for nearly three hours.

Finally, two and a half hours after the band members were declared guilty, the sentence was read. Previously, the judge had been reading from a seemingly endless summary of the trial as participants and observers alike appeared to grow increasingly bored. From the Wall Street Journal's live blog: "One of the lawyers for Pussy Riot is blatantly flicking through a Twitter feed on her smartphone as the judge drones on."

Here in the former Union of Soviet Social Republics (Russia) and also with respect to the former head of the KGB, and presiding head of state Vladimar Putin you have a most unofficial unholy alliance between church and state in complete defiance of Russian Constitutional Law together with the authoritarian Russian Orthodox Church, which is to known to strong ties with the Kremlin (utilizing the civil power to enforce her decrees) and even having a history as a persecuting power with respect to other churches) and even its head having secured residency within the confines of the Kremlin itself, man that would surely have caused Lenin or Stalin to roll over in their graves! You would surmise that if this apostate church truly had as its spirirtual foundation set in the Lord Jesus Christ and in keeping with harnony with respect to scriptural teachings it would surely have pardoned or forgivened the defendants (Pussy Riot musicians) with respect to thier alledged wrong-doings! But the Russian Othodox did not: They chose not to forgive- but rather but as it was with the religious leaders at the time of our Lord Jesus Christ, they to executed through corruption and false accusations an illegal sentence against an innocent man!! "Pussy Riot's trend of conducting impromptu "protest" concerts demonstrates not a defense of rights or freedom of speech, that is, not anyone's but Pussy Riot's. What it does demonstrate in this is a total contempt for the concept of other people's rights, to include the right to private property and freedom of worship. Least we forget, and it seems everyone in the Russian opposition either has or is to ignorant of our history to know, the tactics used by Pussy Riot are the exact same tactics employed by the Communists in the 1920s to intimidate and drive away believers from churches and other places of worship. Their tactic is loathsome at best and is criminal, in this case of disturbing the peace and gross criminal trespass.
