(Newser) – And you thought the story about the "world's worst art restoration" couldn't get better: More than 10,000 people have signed an online petition at asking the town of Borja in Spain to keep the new version of the painting just as it is. The Spanish petition deadpans (we think) that the restored version of the painting of Christ "reveals a subtle critique of creationist theories of the Church" and echoes works by de Goya and Munch. An elderly parishioner had tried her hand at fixing up the fading, 100-year-old original with comical results.

"She just wanted to give it a bit of color," her sister explained to a local newspaper.

While I'm all for artistic expression, the purpose of this project was to restore the work of art, and not create something new. In the process, the original has been destroyed.

It looks like a bird's nest, or a kiwi fruit, with goo-goo-googly eyes.

people are really f**kin stupid. who let this retard destroy this piece of artwork? what made her so "capable" because im sure it wasnt any of her prior work which is probably some finger-paintings of a monkey-god and a virgin monkey-mary.
