(Newser) – Eleven people were shot outside the Empire State Building this morning and two, including the gunman, are reportedly dead. The male gunman may have been a disgruntled employee who may have been fired from his job in or near the Empire State Building, MSNBC reports; the New York Post says the shooting started as "a dispute between coworkers" and reports that the two were fighting on the sidewalk before one started shooting.

He reportedly followed and killed his coworker before returning to the Empire State Building to shoot random bystanders. The fire department got a call about the shooting at the corner of 34th Street and Fifth Avenue around 9am, the AP reports. The gunman was shot and killed by an NYPD officer. (Note: See an updated story with the shooter's identity here.)

Can you imagine the horror: living in NYC being a law abiding citizen who does not carry a gun because he doesn't break laws. Now a bad person who does break laws walks into an office with a gun and no one can defend themselves. All you can do is throw objects at him which will definitely get you shot.

Listen up morons. There are over 314,000,000 people In the united states. Total causes of death by firearms in a year average 11,000 total including accidents. There have been a handful of these retards going out and killing random people in completely separate locations across the country. It may seem like it happens more often but TRUST me it's is media sensationalism and nothing else. Now if one of these guys ran into a theater with a machete ( which will always be easily accessible) hell bent on hurting people hopped up on meth or bath salts THEN having a gun to protect your kids will become a very big important right at that moment. Every person I've ever known who carried a gun daily was the sort of man who would use it to save someone else in danger. Now there are always going to be a few bad apples and thats not something anyone can change. Please stop already with the banning gun nonsense I promise you it will never happen. One thing you should know is the NRA has more money then they know what to do with yet our genius government puts us in 318 billion dollars in debt every single day. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm. http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

I still don't understand the case being made to ban guns. So because we have several isolated incidents of people being violent around the country, sprinkled over several weeks, that means we should revoke the rights of the millions upon millions of gun owners who abide by the law? It's absolutely ridiculous, and it certainly would not be stopping crazy people who want a weapon from getting one. Then you'd just have situations of people who are capable of defending themselves incapable of fighting back when assaulted with a weapon because lunatics will be the ones obtaining weapons, regardless of what the law says. Yes these are horrible tragedies. No, this is not a time to start playing partisan politics because a handful of crazy people snapped and happened to own fire arms as a result of it. These people were breaking the law to begin with, they weren't law abiders in the first place.
