'Skins End Season of Loss in Playoffs

(Newser) – After dropping four games in a row and losing murdered teammate Sean Taylor, the Washington Redskins looked all but done for the season. Starting QB Jason Campbell was injured, other players were distracted by family issues, and coach Joe Gibbs made a rookie-level slipup that cost his team a game. Yet here the Redskins are, poised for the playoffs, writes Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com.

"We're at our best when all odds are against us," said Clinton Portis, whose two touchdowns helped clinch a landslide victory over the Cowboys yesterday. Gibbs, who blew the Buffalo game with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for twice icing the Bills kicker, agreed: "Sometimes in life some of the best things happen to you after you've been crushed."
