(Newser) – The biggest musical event in Martian history is set to take place today when rapper Will.i.am premieres his new song on the red planet. "Reach For The Stars," described as a composition about the Black Eyed Peas co-founder's "passion for science, technology, and space exploration," will be broadcast live on Mars via the Curiosity rover at 4pm Eastern time, reports Reuters. The transmission, which is linked to an educational event during which members of the Curiosity team will explain the broadcast to students, will be shown here.

Most countries would send a video of a ballet, or a classical music composition into space. Not America. I am surprised we didn't just broadcast our superbowl ads.

Will.i.am debuting song on Mars? Great, now, how do we get him and the rest of the BEPs to stay there. Sorry, not a fan. More into Sinatra, B.B. King, Robert Cray, Elvis and Hank Williams (Senior, not the idiot son of his).
