Iran: If Israel Attacks, We'll Retaliate ... Against US

Comments come amid report of talks between Washington, Tehran

(Newser) – The US and Israel are in it together when it comes to Iran—whether the US likes it or not. Iran said today that it saw no difference between Israel and the United States, and that an attack by either would result in retaliation against both, Reuters reports. " We must not recognize Israel as separate from America ," a Revolutionary Guard commander told Iran's state-run news service. "If the Americans commit the smallest folly they will not leave the region safely."

The comments come in the wake of an Israeli media report that the White House was negotiating with Iran to ensure it wasn't sucked into an Iran-Israel war. The White House denied the report, though US military officials have openly talked about their reluctance to back an Israeli attack. "I don't want to be complicit if they choose to do it," Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey recently told the Guardian.

The non-compliant to the non-proliferation treaty (NPT) USA has supplied the aircraft and bunker-buster bombs that will be indispensable to the not-even-an-NPT-signatory, nuclear-armed Israel, in the event it decides to launch an unprovoked, unwarranted and thoroughly illegal attack upon non-nuclear armed, NPT compliant Iran. The USA funds Israel's socialist paradise (including Israel's excellent single payer medical system), allowing them to spend more money on oppressing Palestians and purchasing the weapon systems the USA delights to supply them - and the USA pays for these purchases, sometimes as subsidies and sometimes through debt forgiveness - enabling the cycle of US Taxpayer $  -> Israel -> US Military suppliers -> AIPAC and friends -> US politicians -> US Taxpayer $... which has played a significant role in converting the USA into an economically failing fascist state. The US has repeatedly shielded Israel, from the well-deserved consequences of its aggression and continual transgressions of international law and plain commonsense, as well as providing verbal support to Israel and repeated and illegal threats against Iran. That makes us not just complicit, but co-conspirators - which means that in the event that Israel attacks Iran (much less likely now that Dempsey has warned them off) the USA and American interests are definitely valid targets for an Iranian response. While it is true that the USA could attack Iran and probably could cause massive damage, even though it would probably cost us a carrier or two, it is unlikely that non-boots-on-the-ground action would topple Iran's government, or that China would continue to bankroll us as we did so, as they so kindly did over the past two illegal Middle East wars. This, even more than the Republican agenda, would massively accelerate the USA's slide into economic catastrophe and global irrelevance - and have the inevitable result that the USA would become much less effective at prolonging the day when, as all non-partisan analysts have predicted, Israel is forced through her self-inflicted ecological-tragedy-in-the-making, to transform into a unitary, non-apartheid, Palestinian dominated state or be condemned to irrelevance as a much sanctioned apartheid state lacking support from any other significant country (Tajikistan and Kurdistan, though having rulers as unprincipled and nasty as Netanyahu, not being regarded as significant for this discussion). It would also guarantee, to a greater extent even than the USA's NPT-busting support for India's nuclear program, that Iran and others would leave the NPT and ultimately develop nuclear weapons. I cannot think of a greater own-goal for Israel than the above scenario, much of which would follow-on to an attack on Iran.

Nothing is going to happen.  Both regimes are rattling sabers to distract people from domestic and economic problems at home.  Ever notice how Netanyahu ratcheted up the rhetoric right around the time some Israelis were setting themselves on fire to protest the cost of living and cuts to social programs?  Ever notice how Iran started spinning the centrifuges right after the election riots two years ago? The only thing that seems to have been accomplished is serious damage to Israel's relationship with America. I realize that is cause for cheering for a lot of you on here.  It's not for me, but I'm not afraid to admit in front of you that this is the outcome. At any rate, I am betting there will be no war.
