(Newser) – Widening the Anglican gay divide, conservative leaders unveiled plans today for a summit to challenge the traditional Lambeth conference this summer, the Guardian reports. Planners of the Global Anglican Future Conference wrote on their website that Anglicans are "divided into liberal and conservative factions" and will likely splinter over the consecration of a gay priest in New Hampshire in 2003.

The head of US Anglicans fired back at conservatives today by accusing churches of sexual double-standards. Bishop Katherine Schori said her church, which appointed the gay bishop, has been scapegoated for its honesty: “[Gay Bishop Gene Robinson] is certainly not alone in being a gay bishop," she told the BBC. "He is alone in being the only gay partnered bishop who's open about that status."
