(Newser) – Cars could be the next must-have gadget, the Wall Street Journal reports, with Ford making Microsoft's Sync system standard issue on many models just a sign of things to come. Bringing the comforts of the digital age to the road will be a major theme of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, set to open Monday in Las Vegas.

“For me, if the Ford Focus comes equipped with Sync, and the Toyota Corolla doesn’t, I’d buy the Ford,” one analyst said of the system, which allows drivers to use voice commands to make calls or play music. “Eventually, you will be able to fully customize how you interact with your car,” Microsoft’s automotive honcho promises.
