(Newser) – About 4 in 10 Americans have a college degree, but the US must look north to see the "world's most educated country," according to number crunching from 24/7WallSt and the America Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Leading its top-10 list of the nations with the highest percentage of college grads:

  1. Canada (51%): The only nation to crack the 50% mark.
  2. Israel: (46%): It helps that the nation's high school graduation rate is 92%.
  3. Japan (45%): But new college grads are struggling to find jobs.
  4. United States (42%): And we've got the college debt to go along with that high percentage.
  5. New Zealand (41%): It's also a big draw for international students.

A liberal arts education assures that you are a more well-rounded person.  Even if it isn't particularly marketable right now, it is a wonderful thing to have acquired.  Its really too bad that the people who trash it, have never had the chance to experience it. Seeing a larger perspective, and being exposed to some of the world's great minds is exactly what we need more of right now.  This culture is sliding into the realm of technical buffoons who think reruns of The Dukes of Hazzard are fine art.

There is a big difference between being educated and being intelligent with common sense.

I'm suprised to see the USA in the top five. And so close to Japan. Canada is doing something right.
