Ex-Philippine President Arrested in Hospital, Again

It's third indictment in two years for Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

(Newser) – In what's getting to be a habit, ex-Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was arrested in a hospital room today. It's the second time that's happened, and her third indictment since stepping down two years ago, the AP reports. This time, Arroyo was being treated for dehydration at a government-run hospital when police arrived and temporarily detained her on corruption charges. She allegedly misused $8.8 million in state lottery funds.

Arroyo, who also suffers from a neck ailment, will remain in the hospital overnight, after which a court will decide whether she should continue being detained there, or go to jail. The case is unrelated to Arroyo's last arrest, which was for alleged election rigging. She was detained in the hospital for eight months in that case before posting bail. She's involved in yet another case related to an overpriced deal with a Chinese telecom company. But she chalks all the charges up to a political vendetta she says her successor has against her.

Having actually lived in the P.I, for more than fivew years, I have a good idea what's going on.  The names Macapagal and Arroyo are to the Filipinos what FDR and JFK are to the U.S.  They are old established politically active familes with lots of friends in all sorts of places.  In order to destroy all that heritage, Gloria will be hounded unmercifully until she is dead.  The fact she was arrested in a government hospital says a lot.  The fact this is a third indictment says more. When her opponents have destroyed her, they will take on the rest of the family.

It will never happen in America, where and ex president is held accountable for the crimes that he committed in office.

The reality in the Philippines is that President Arroyo, being female, could have never been the fulcrum in this corruption scandal...  Just cannot happen; there was, is not, and never will be a female, President or otherwise, that could coordinate what she is accused of.  There simply has to be other, better integrated males somewhere scheming and positioned to pull off such corruption.
